Spring 2009 Slow to Arrive in Calgary

This picture of the Bow River gives a clue about how much snow we've had this winter in Calgary.

I can report today that the past three or four days of warm weather have taken most of the snow and ice away. Leaving behind a lot of brown grass and buds literally on the edge of bursting. If this keeps up, we should see some beautiful tinges of green on our trees, lawns, and gardens by next week. One of the most scenic times of year around here.
It's a good time to visit Calgary, but if you're visiting from far away, do bring your winter coat, hat, mitts and boots in case you decide to go to Banff or somewhere else in the mountains. It's colder up there and we want you to be comfortable.

I was fortunate enough to spend a fortnight in Calgary around Stampede time two years ago - and you have the most beautiful city, people and countryside.
Spent three days riding in the Rockies, a little hiking, off to Drumheller, then to Banff, the Stampede of course and just had the best time.
Vowed that I would bring the family back and do it all again - once they were prepared for the flight and connections from Sydney - ouch!
So many synergies between our two countries (including our sense of humour) that it's sometimes scary.
